Sense detects whether electricity is currently being fed into the grid via your electricity meter. Together with a novolto immersion heater, this data can be used for automatic surplus management.

In the novolto app, you can see your meter readings in real time. This allows you to quickly identify when your household is drawing electricity and when your PV system is feeding surplus energy back into the grid.

Simply mount it on the electricity meter

Attach the magnetic infrared read head to the optical interface of your compatible electricity meter, power up Sense, and connect it to your Wi-Fi. The electricity meter does not need to be opened for this.

The magnetic infrared reading head sits directly on the optical interface of your electricity meter and reads the available meter data.

Bridge

The sensor unit connects the reading head to your Wi-Fi and transmits the readings to the novolto app.

Does Sense work with your electricity meter?

Check your electricity meter and measurement setup before ordering. For this storefront, use a supported Shelly, Tibber Pulse or poweropti setup, or a suitable system connected through MQTT. Novolto Sense is available for Germany only.

  • Phase 1 – Testing Sense at the electricity meter

    You mount Sense to your electricity meter and connect the device to your Wi-Fi. Afterwards, we check whether your meter reliably provides the required readings via the optical interface.

  • Phase 2 – Connect to the immersion heater

    Once the readout is working reliably, Sense will be connected to your novolto immersion heater. From then on, the measured values can be used for automatic surplus solar power control.
